Confederate monument in Lockhart (KKK).jpg

In Lockhart, we have the unique opportunity to relocate a Confederate monument prominently placed in our Courthouse lawn in 1923 at the height of local Ku Klux Klan influence. Through our coalition's effort, we secured support of Caldwell Co Commissioners Court, 5 votes to 0, in favor of our proposal to move the monument to the county museum instead.

In fact, we're literally the only place in the state who's obtained permission from the Texas Historical Commission to pull a Dixie monument from its longtime placement – however, county officials are obligating residents to foot the bill in order to remove this racist relic from public view.

To date, we have raised $16,095 of the $29,600 required to succeed.  Can you help us reach this goal and advance the urgent cause of racial justice in Caldwell County?

For every $100 donation made by Sept 5, you will receive a complimentary VIP Badge to Lost River Film Fest, the annual showcase of new, independent cinema from across the world, to be held Sept 9-12 in Lockhart: primarily at the historic Gaslight Baker Theatre, as well as events in Old Pal Tavern, Masur Gallery and Lockhart Arts and Craft!

As an additional token of gratitude, your name will appear on screen, before every showing that weekend, on a promotional spot urging donations to relocate the Confederate monument.  We hope your contribution might inspire others to follow suit, enabling us to attain our hard-fought goal of ensuring a more harmonious & hospitable downtown.
