Documentary on BMX – one of the world’s most dangerous sports – chronicling astounding flatlander Benjamin Hudson in Chile, as he readies for the next Olympic games.

Simultaneous with film programming, a free BMX spectacle will transpire at Park West, at the Michael Raetzsch Skatepark (920 San Antonio Ave) called “Wheelz & Reelz.” 

 

The outdoor exposition – featuring professional riders who specialize in flatland or vert – complements a 11AM screening at Palace Theatre of WHAT THE FLAT?!, a documentary on Chilean BMX athlete Benjamin Hudson.

8PM - RAÚLSALINAS & THE POETRY OF LIBERATION: UN TRIP (25min, ATX/San Anto)

A splitscreen jazz-&-liberation film based on the words of “Un Trip through the Mind Jail” by raúlrsalinas, written in 1969 in Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. The poem expresses lived experience in La Loma (East Austin). The short explores contemporary issues: imprisonment in the jail machine, community destruction & gentrification, the overwhelming force of cultural memory in sanity & salvation, the need for societal transformation.
